Running Out of Energy? by Dr. Carol Ann Fischer, DC

Running out of energy refers to a condition where you keep pushing your body to go, or you feel like you have no motivation to do anything. This is not a reference to making sure that you have eaten a sufficient quantity of food or need better goals. Low or no energy refers to the reduced function of the hormonal system to generate energy.

The job of the hormonal system is to activate your entire body and keep it going all day. A normally functioning hormonal system would enable you to easily jump out of bed in the morning. How many of you have to drag your body out of bed and get a stimulant like a cup of coffee in order to function? If you are tired in the morning and/or need caffeine to get going, your hormones are not working well.

If you experience fatigue after lunch or midday, or reach for something sweet to eat to get some energy, your hormones are not functioning normally. Your hormonal system should be providing your body with energy all day, and allow you to relax and sleep at night. If you are having any difficulty getting to sleep, staying asleep or waking up frequently during the night, your hormonal system is out of balance.

In addition to fatigue, the other indicators of a hormonal system that needs help include, sugar and/or salt cravings, weight gain, pain, hair thinning or loss, cold hands and feet and feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Stress is one of the major reasons that the hormonal system fails to do its job.

Too much stress can play havoc with the hormonal system. Ongoing or chronic stress adversely affects your ability to make the hormones needed for daily function. The stress response of the body burns out over time causing fatigue, insomnia, altered mood, lack of motivation, poor digestion, decreased sex drive, irritability, depression, sugar cravings, chronic pain, inability to stay asleep, osteoporosis, weight gain, and more symptoms.

There is a natural solution to help repair hormonal imbalance regardless of the stage of hormonal function your body is in. Various alternative approaches to repairing hormonal imbalances range from dietary and lifestyle changes to natural hormonal support. Consult a holistic wellness physician to find out more about your hormones, what stage of hormonal function your body is in, and what can be done to rejuvenate your energy.

Running on Empty posted on 8 March 2015 by Dr. Carol Ann Fischer, BS, DC, ND

                                                Running on Empty

This phrase conjures up images of your car running out of fuel while you are driving, with no available gas station to fill up your tank. Running on empty also refers to a condition where you keep pushing your body to go, and it has no more available fuel to use. This is not a reference to making sure that you have eaten a sufficient quantity of food.  Running on empty refers to the reduced function of the hormonal system.

The job of the hormonal system is to activate your entire body and keep it going all day. A normally functioning hormonal system would enable you to easily jump out of bed in the morning. How many of you have to drag your body out of bed and get something like a cup of coffee in order to function? If you are tired in the morning and/or need caffeine to get going, your hormones are not doing what they should.

If you experience fatigue after lunch or midday, or reach for something sweet to eat to get some energy, again your hormones are not functioning well. Your hormonal system should be providing your body with energy to function throughout the day, and allowing you to relax and sleep at night. If you are having any difficulty getting to sleep, staying asleep or waking up frequently during the night, your hormonal system is out of balance.

The Magic of Motion
The human body is designed to move. Normal spinal motion allows the spine to move in turning, side motion and forward/backward. The movement also allows nerve signals from the brain to successfully travel through the spinal cord to all parts of the body.
Lack of normal motion can cause the brain to lose communication with the body, and the (remove) decrease the brain’s ability to control and coordinate it. A decrease in motion can occur from emotional stress, dietary stress, toxic overload, and physical stress.
Stress causes tension to build up in the muscles and joints of the body. This tension causes alterations in the normal structural alignment of the spine. The tension build-up can actually cause increased irritation and heightened sensitivity of the nervous system, resulting in pain.
Physical loss of motion can occur from traumas, auto accidents, falls, birth trauma, sports injuries, repetitive motion injuries and poor posture. According to the CDC (spell out) the average child, before they enter their teens, has had over 1000 physical traumas, while the average American has seven auto accidents in their lifetime. Auto accidents occur at a rate of 1.2 per second in the U.S. That is more than 103,600 accidents per day.
This loss of motion from trauma results in stress on the body, joints and nervous system. According to the Spine Institute of San Diego the damage from automobile collisions may not show up for days, weeks, months or years. Such symptoms as headaches, decreased mobility, stiffness, and back pain can occur following trauma, while osteoarthritis may not show up for years.
The force transferred to the body from an average rear-end collision, in a normal, mid-sized car, may be as high as five times the force of the actual collision. In a 10 mile-per-hour accident, the transferred force may accelerate the body up to nearly 50 mph. Women are usually hurt more in accidents, because most women have less muscle strength and body mass than men.
Chiropractic is a safe, effective, non-drug approach to reducing the effects of stress on a body. Chiropractors spend years learning to restore normal motion to the spine and joints of the body. Improved motion results in improved brain and nervous system communication, and improved body health and function. Chiropractic as a non-invasive health care option has been validated in numerous studies.
In a comparative study presented at the International Conference on Spinal Manipulation in Washington, D.C., chiropractic care successfully restored spinal motion to patients with low back pain and walking dysfunction, while those patients receiving conventional care, including physiotherapy had no change in their walking pattern.
A study in the Journal of Orthopedic Medicine found that 94% of patients with neck pain, restricted movement and neurological symptoms responded positively to chiropractic treatment. In a 2 year study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, patients who had received chiropractic care for neck and back pain experienced increased mobility and less pain, as well as significantly lower health care costs compared to patients receiving other treatment options.
Many medical physicians today recognize the role that chiropractic can have in integrative health care. As reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine, 50% of the Rheumatologists had referred their patients to alternative health care practitioners, mostly chiropractors.

When chiropractic restores motion to the joints of the body it can be magical. Ability to turn the head, bend over easily, walk and move without pain is often instantaneous after chiropractic treatment. Movement, walking and exercise can become easy again. Even a ten-minute walk becomes doable, which is important. A California State University found that a 10-minute walk is enough to increase energy, alter mood, and affect a positive outlook for up to 2 hours.
To see if chiropractic can increase your mobility call TLC Holistic Wellness at (734) 664 - 0339 to schedule a no charge consultation and free spinal motion evaluation.

Healthy Living Made Simple

Healthy Living Made Simple
By Dr. Carol Ann Fischer, BS, DC, ND

Worrying about unwanted health issues can cause stress. The general population is not taught how the human body works. Digestive difficulties, sleep issues, fatigue and many other health concerns begin our search for answers for ourselves, or our loved ones. A great deal of time and money is spent looking for solutions to health challenges, yet the answers are not found.

The body is a living organism with 5 simple requirements.
1.    Air    2. Water   3. Food   4. Movement – Exercise   5. Freedom from Mental Stress

Air
Most people let their breathing be automatic, and do not do any deep breathing. Add a few minutes of deep breathing throughout the day to provide your body with essential oxygen. Take a deep breath in through your nose. Fill your lungs with air so that your chest lifts up, as if you are blowing up a balloon. Then exhale all the air as your chest lowers back to its original position.

Live Water
The human body is a living organism made up of 70% water. Living organisms need live water and live food. Without real live food and water the body has a difficult time maintaining a balanced state of health. Live water and live food are the genuine replacement parts your body needs. So what is live water and live food?

Live water is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are the number one selling supplement in the world. No one wants to age. We are all looking for ways to stay young and healthy. Antioxidants stop the aging process. They also reduce pain and inflammation in the body. Most drinking water is dead water with no antioxidants. This water ages the body, causing pain, inflammation and acidity.

Live Food
Cooked processed, and fast foods contain no live enzymes. The enzymes that allow food to be digested are destroyed with heat. Live food has the enzymes that allow us to digest. We need to eat a diet that contains live food every day. It is true that what you eat determines how your feel!  The only side effect to live food and water is better health and less stress.

I see many people with poor digestive systems who cannot digest live food. Lack of the specific digestive enzymes needed for proper digestion is the most common underlying health issue people have. The body is unable to get the essential nutrients it needs from undigested food. This creates nutritional deficiencies, which lead to unwanted health issues. Every body is different, and has different needs. The secret to health lies in identifying the specific digestive enzymes that you need that work for you.

Poor digestion also leads to food allergies, food intolerances, parasites and fungal overgrowth. A malfunction of the digestive system creates a compromise of the immune system, and increases stress. Eighty percent of the immune system is in the gut. The immune system becomes compromised when you cannot properly digest.

Movement
Exercise and movement is essential to keep your body alive. Muscles and joints are designed to move, and need to move daily. We are not designed for our sedentary lifestyle, where we sit all day and night. We need to move to promote good health. Movement allows your body to move nutrients into the cells and waste out. Walking just 20 minutes a day increases circulation, elevates mood and improves body health and function.

Movement with Deep Breathing
Recharge your body when deep breathing by adding body movement. Stand comfortably with your feet shoulder width apart. Place your arms together straight out in front of you. Take a deep breathe in. As you exhale move your arms out to each side. Add more movement by bending over when you deeply inhale, letting your arms fall in front of you. Exhale as you straighten up while moving your arms out to the side. Repeat for several minutes to invigorate your body.

Peace of Mind
Freedom from mental stress is the last health requirement. Worry about your health or the health of a loved one produces more acid waste in the body, causing more aging and stress. We need more antioxidants when we are stressed. Our food, water and lifestyle choices have lead to poor health, creating additional stress.

The key to peace of mind lies in identifying the specific nutritional deficiencies that you have as a result of your food and lifestyle habits. At TLC we use through specific testing to help identify the specific digestive enzymes you need, find your missing nutrients and your specific food and water requirements. As you feel better and health improves, exercise and movement become easier, stress reduction occurs and life is enjoyable again.  Visit www.TLCHolisticWellness.com or call (734) 664 - 0339 to learn more.

Stress is NOT a Way of Life

Posted on October 12, 2014 by Dr. Carol Ann Fischer, DC, ND
We live stress filled lives. We eat on the go, and our days are unending. We can’t stop thinking and let ourselves relax and enjoy. We are always working or doing something. We wait for vacations, and then need a vacation after our vacation. We have forgotten how to relax and enjoy life. In our world today stress has become a way of life, but it should NOT be so. The right amount of stress helps motivate us to take action. Too much stress can cause us to feel overwhelmed, overworked, fatigued, and emotionally and physically drained. The adrenal glands, part of the endocrine system, primarily deal with stress. These glands are located on top of each kidney, which is how they get their name, the adrenals.
There are 3 categories of stress   that can cause the adrenals to react. The first is physical stress from poor posture, injuries or trauma. The second is chemical and environmental stress that can be in the form of food, toxic chemicals, insufficient water, missing vitamins or minerals, electromagnetic pollution or allergic reactions. The third type of stress is what most people think of when stress is mentioned – the emotional reaction. We create emotional stress by saying “No Problem”, when we really mean, “No Way.” Stress is cumulative, meaning the different types of stress add up to feeling overload. When the brain determines that it is stressed, it believes everything is an emergency.

There is a natural solution to this 21st century stress overload phenomenon. First identify the different stressors that are causing a stress reaction in your body. Next reduce the stressors that you can by changing your diet, and lifestyle habits. Here are six ways to help you win the battle against adrenal stress burnout.
  1. Follow your natural body instinct to go to bed early, when you first feel tired. Do not stress yourself by staying up late and allowing yourself to get that second wind.
  2. Eat real whole foods and the correct protein requirement for your body type, instead of eating convenience and fast foods. Do not give into sugar, chocolate and carbohydrate cravings.
  3. Avoid dietary stimulants that keep the body in a “stress emergency” state. Do not allow yourself to become dependent upon coffee, pop or caffeine stimulants.
  4. Your body needs water to bathe the inside to flush out as many toxins as it can. When the body cannot flush out the toxins, they are stored in your body fat, adding to weight gain. Do not drink less water than half your body weight in ounces.
  5. Avoid foods made with hydrogenated oils or trans fats. These bad fats damage the cells on the inside of your body. Do not eat junk food, packaged or processed foods that have these bad oils.
  6. How long it will take for you to have your energy return varies from person to person. Have patience and allow your body time to heal. You will know when you are ready to get back into a regular routine. As your body heals your energy will return. Do not force yourself to exercise when you are exhausted, as this will only slow your recovery.
Chiropractic care is an essential tool to help reset the adrenals. Chiropractic reduces the accumulated physical stress on the nervous system, by taking the body out of the “stress emergency” state. Once the body had been de-stressed by chiropractic, exercise can then help to keep the physical stress level down. Nutrition is another essential tool to provide the necessary building blocks for the body to repair weak adrenal glands. Finding and fixing nutritional deficiencies allows the body to heal itself once it has the correct nutrients. Identifying and reducing the toxic burden the body has accumulated is another important component of stress reduction.

The goal of stress reduction and adrenal regeneration is to give the body the necessary tools and opportunity to rebuild and repair the adrenals. Avoid becoming dependent upon natural or synthetic hormone therapy. The hormones produced by your endocrine glands are very potent chemical messengers. High doses of natural, bio-identical or synthetic hormones prevent your body from actually healing. Change your diet and lifestyle habits to remove the interferences that have created the stress. Give your body what it needs to begin to make its own hormones again. Allow your body the time it needs to renew and repair. Your reward will be a new life, filled with energy, vitality and less stress!
