Conquering Weight

Posted by Dr. Carol Ann Fischer, DC

As we start the New Year, win the battle against holiday weight gain or that stubborn weight that refuses to budge.

Unwanted weight gain occurs primarily from hormone imbalance. Excess dietary sugar and carbohydrates trigger the body to go into fat storage mode. When Trans Fats are part of the diet the body is unable to use or metabolize them. More fat storage occurs.

Excess sugars and Trans Fats are stored as body fat, especially around the abdomen, butt and thighs. The body will do what it can to store these as far away from the heart as possible. This is one reason why muscles become marbled with fat.

Once excess fat is present, the body will use the fat to store excess fat storing hormones and toxins. The more body fat, the more the hormone imbalance occurs.

Toxins abound in personal care products, household cleaners, and our food, air and water.

*   There are 1700 new chemicals released yearly in the US. Only 45% are tested for toxicity.
*   More than 700 chemicals are added to drinking water supplies.
*   Common personal care cosmetics expose people daily to over 200 different hormone altering or cancer causing chemicals.
*  The average American consumes 14 pounds of chemical additives, 180 pounds of table sugar and 8 pounds of commercial table salt yearly.
*  During processing and storage 10,000 compounds are added to the more than 320,000 processed     foods available today.
*  Of the many toxins found in packaged foods, the worst is Trans Fat or partially hydrogenated fat. This fat raises LDL cholesterol and causes additional hormone stress.

Without good dietary fats the body is forced to use Trans Fat in its cell membranes. Water and nutrients cannot get into the cells and toxins cannot get out. Toxins become stored in more body fat and hormone stress/imbalance increases.

Good fat is essential for the body. It also protects the brain and nervous system. Every cell membrane in the body contains good fat. The body requires good dietary fat like flax seed, avocado, chia seed, olive oil, and fresh un-rancid Omega 3 fish oil to enable it to balance hormones.

To conquer the weight and win the battle requires simple changes in dietary & lifestyle habits including healthy water and nutrition to help re-balance the hormones naturally, and the release of fat burning hormones instead of fat storing hormones. This strategy successfully allows the body to gently release the toxins and burn the fat. You can be the winner in the weight loss battle!

You Are What You Eat posted on December 13. 2015 by Dr. Carol Ann Fischer, DC

You Are What You Eat

Since your body rebuilds itself, eat well for the holidays. Go easy on the sugars and junk food. Remember, you body has to make new heart cells and a whole new body from what you eat. Make sure you have a sufficient quantity of high quality protein.

You are more than what you eat. You are what you digest and metabolize. In order to rebuild your body it is vital that your body be able to use the food you eat to repair and regenerate itself. If you feel bloated and full during holiday meals, you may need digestive enzymes or specific digestive support.

There are natural ways to help improve the ability of your body digest and metabolize the foods that you eat. Instead of avoiding certain foods, or relying on unnatural solutions to digestive issues, help your body heal itself naturally by providing the right nutritional support.

Not sure about what diet or digestive nutrition is right for you?  If you are Novi, Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield, Livonia or in the surrounding Detroit area contact Dr. Sherry Yale, DC at TLC Holistic Wellness in Livonia, MI at (734) 664 - 0339 for a no charge consultation to determine what foods might be hurting you, what foods might be best for you, and what digestive support you might need.

Enjoy the Holiday season with friends and family!

Enjoying Holiday Sweets Posted on November 19, 2015 by Dr. Carol Ann Fischer, DC

Sugar now has a bad reputation, as does fat. Both have been linked to a lot of degenerative diseases and unwanted health issues. So how do you make holiday cookies, cakes and pies without the traditional white sugar and solid white oil? You use good sugars and good oil.

No all sugars are the same. There are natural sugars and man-made sugars. Man-made sugar from corn used to be known as high fructose corn syrup. It has been renamed as fructose. Fructose was considered fruit sugar, but now it is a highly processed GMO corn sugar.

Fructose as a refined sugar spikes blood sugar rapidly, compared to natural sugars that are metabolized slowly as food. Another man-made sugar that has seen a name change contains aspartame. This artificial sweetener is now amino-sweet, with the same toxic chemical compounds.

Good fat in the form of oil is needed in all baked goods. The best fats and oils to use occur naturally as foods. Man-made oils are made by adding hydrogen gas to create a solid mass at room temperature. The process is called hydrogenation, and it produces a fat known as a trans fat or hydrogenated fat.

Trans fats are flat molecules, like a pad of paper. Good natural fat is like many crumpled up papers. Natural fats are easily used as building blocks by the body for the brain, nervous system and all cell membranes due to their shape. Only 18 days are needed for the body to use a good fat, while it takes 51 days to break down a trans fat.

This holiday season can be a time of great joy, and sharing many festive foods with family and friends. Join the growing movement of healthier food choices in preparing holiday sweets. Here is a simple guideline of what sugars & fats to avoid and what to use instead. Enjoy the sweetness of the holiday season!

A Thanksgiving Poem Posted on November 19, 2015 by Dr. Carol Ann Fischer, DC

A Thanksgiving Poem

'TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL FROM DR. YALE, DC AT TLC HOLISTIC WELLNESS
