Neck Pain

It’s no surprise that many people have neck pain, whether acute or chronic. After all, the neck has to support on average 12 pounds -- which is the average weight of an adult head. Because the neck, also referred to as the cervical spine, is notably flexible and able to move in many directions, it is highly susceptible to injury and pain.

The most common causes of neck pain include:

•    sports injuries
•    whiplash caused by automobile accidents
•    degenerative disk disease
•    bulging disks
•    osteoarthritis
•    spinal stenosis
•    poor posture
•    weak abdominal muscles
•    stress and tension leading to tight neck muscles

In order to determine the cause, source, and location of your neck pain, here at TLC Holistic Wellness, we will perform both a physical (range of motion check, posture check, spine exam) and neurological examination. In some cases, we may request an MRI or X-ray. Once we have more information about the cause and severity of your neck pain, we will develop an individualized chiropractic treatment program that may include neck adjustments, core stability exercises, massage, or other physical therapy. There’s no reason for you to continuously suffer from neck pain.

Food Allergies

Upwards of six percent of children in the U.S. under the age of 18 have food allergies, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The risk of food allergies is greater if a child is under the age of three or has a genetic predisposition to allergies, although any child can develop a food allergy.

While some allergic reactions to food can be mild, others may come on suddenly, be severe, and even be life threatening as in the case of anaphylaxis. The most common signs of food allergies include:

  • ·         Hives or a rash

  • ·         Tingling in the mouth

  • ·         Swelling in the throat or tongue

  • ·         Feeling dizzy

  • ·         Cramps in the abdomen

  • ·         Coughing

  • ·         Breathing difficulties

  • ·         Diarrhea or vomiting

  • ·         Lack of consciousness

Practically any food can cause a food allergy, but the most common food allergies, particularly during childhood, include milk, eggs, nuts, soy, shellfish, and wheat.

Here at TLC Holistic Wellness, we recommend people with food allergies  be diligent in reading the ingredients found on food product labels.  This will ensure that a food isn’t consumed that causes an allergic reaction. To learn more about food allergies and to obtain a personal food allergy and nutritional evaluation, contact us by calling (734) 664-0339.

Low Back Pain

Many people experience low back pain at least once at some point in their life. In fact, as many as 31 million people in the U.S. experience low back pain at any point in time, according to the American Chiropractic Association. This is largely because the back is made up of such a complex structure of ligaments, muscles, joints, and bones that all must work in tandem with each other. Any misalignment can inflict low back pain on its victim.

While car accidents and sports injuries are common causes of low back pain, something as simple as bending over to pick up a coin from the floor can result in low back pain. Other causes of back pain include:

  • ·         poor posture

  • ·         arthritis

  • ·         kidney problems

  • ·         herniated disk

  • ·         sciatica

  • ·         obesity

  • ·         viral infections

  • ·         fibromyalgia

Fortunately, chiropractic treatment here at TLC Holistic Wellness can provide low back pain relief and restore mobility through such holistic treatments as spinal adjustments, massage, physical therapy, and exercise. If you are suffering from low back pain, contact us today at (734) 664-0339 to schedule a consultation.

Enhance your Life with Movement!

Joint health is important to living a good life.  That’s why we stress healthy aging to all of our patients at TLC Holistic Wellness.  In 2013, National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM) will be celebrated in October.  As Chiropractors look at the importance of joint health at all stages of life, we encourage patients to learn more about what they can do to keep their joints functioning properly this month.

At TLC Holistic Wellness we encourage everyone to lead a healthy life by promoting joint health through physical activity. All of the joints of the body must be functioning in order for us to carry out normal activities of daily living. Some 150 million to 200 million cases of back pain send people to the doctor every year—and many of those are related to spinal joint injuries. The bones that make up the joints allow movement, and the muscles pull the bones to produce the movement.

The movements that are performed on a daily basis are critical to long-term joint health, as are proper nutrition, a healthy exercise regimen, and a healthy lifestyle. Moving a joint through its full range of motion serves several important purposes. Joints are not supplied directly with blood as are other organs within the body, but instead are nourished with synovial fluid that is forced into the joint cartilage through pressure resulting from body movement.

So the saying, “Use it or lose it” applies to joint function. Joints need to be moving for full body function. Get your joints checked at no charge during the month of October at TLC Holistic Wellness to make sure they are moving correctly.  Call (734) 664 - 0339 to schedule your no-charge evaluation.
