Upper Back Pain

Many patients who come to our TLC Holistic Wellness office suffer from upper back pain. Dr. Carol Ann Fischer provides a wide variety of treatment options, ranging from adjustments and manipulations to massage and herbal remedies. The upper and middle back, also known as the thoracic spine, includes 12 vertebrae, as well as ligaments, muscles and discs, all of which can become misaligned and cause moderate to severe pain for our patients.

The cause of the upper back pain will need to be determined before we can provide the right treatment plan. The following are common causes for upper back pain:

•    Poor posture
•    Injury or muscle strain to the ligament, muscles or discs
•    Herniated disc or other spinal nerve disorders
•    Fracture of the vertebrae
•    Osteoarthritis

We provide various treatment options for upper back pain, including adjustments and manipulations, therapeutic massage as manual therapy, such as mobilization. Here in our Livonia, MI chiropractic practice, we will also give patients recommendations to prevent further injuries to their back including diet and exercise tips, posture advice, and anti-inflammatory medications advice to ease the pain. Migraines

Migraines cause severe pain for many patients, and can include throbbing and pulsating pain in the head. Migraines are common, affecting about 12 percent of Americans, according to the U.S. Department of Human Services and National Institutes of Health.

Some patients experience warnings in the form of a flashing light or aura, while others have no warning at all. Symptoms of migraines include nausea, vomiting, throbbing or pulsating feelings in the head, and sensitivity to bright lights or loud noises. These usually tell us it is a migraine and not just a bad headache.

Here at TLC Holistic Wellness in Livonia, MI, we provide treatment to help reduce the pain and frequency of the migraines. While the cause of your migraine may not be known, certain triggers tend to be common among our patients. Migraines are often triggered by certain lifestyle changes or events, such as hormonal changes for women, exposure to light, stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, or certain types of food and beverages.

Dr. Carol Ann Fischer offers different treatments for migraines, including the following:

1. Massage Therapy
2. Biofeedback
3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
4. Herbal Remedies

Sciatica

Patients who are experiencing moderate or severe pain in their lower back or upper buttocks area are often suffering from sciatica pain. The pain stems from the sciatic nerve, which runs along the lower back to the buttocks and down each leg. Most of our patients only experience sciatic pain on one side or the other, though some have pain on both sides. Aside from pain relief medication, chiropractic and herbal care here at TLC Holistic Wellness is one of the best ways to treat this condition.
Some common symptoms of sciatica include pain in the back, buttocks, or thigh, burning or tingling down the leg, constant pain or shooting pain, and weakness or numbness of one leg. Because sciatica is caused by irritation of the spine and nerves, chiropractic treatments are an excellent option for our patients.

We offer adjustments and manipulations of the spine, therapeutic massage and herbal remedies for our patients who wish to get help for their sciatica. Dr. Carol Ann Fischer also suggests the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for reducing the pain and discomfort of sciatica pain.
