Snow Shoveling Tips Back Pain Help

Snow Shoveling Tips Back Pain Help

As you might expect we see a lot of patients for back pain here at TLC Holistic Wellness. In fact, back pain is one of the most commonly reported injury and type of pain in our chiropractic office. This is because of how easy it is to hurt the back, whether from whiplash after a vehicle accident or due to improper posture form everyday activities.

But this time of year another common cause of back pain occurs more often when patients are shoveling snow, usually incorrectly. This is a hard job, and can take it toll on the body, particularly when you aren’t used to shoveling snow regularly or shovel snow improperly.

Thankfully, we provide treatments to help patients find relief from snow shoveling back pain, including adjustments and manipulations, massage therapy, and acupuncture.

Aside from these services, we also want our patients to understand the ways they can prevent back pain when shoveling snow. This includes the following tips:

  • ·         Stretching properly before and after.

  • ·         Using the right shovel. Ergonomic shovels are best.

  • ·         Lifting with the legs.

  • ·         Switching sides frequently while shoveling.

  • ·         Pace yourself.

  • ·         Stay hydrated.

  • ·         Get regular exercise year-round.

  • ·         Push the snow, rather than lift whenever possible.

If you are having back pain from snow shoveling, call Dr. Carol Ann Fischer at 734-664-0339.

Live Blood Cell Analysis

Live blood cell analysis is a type of test that is conducted to determine the overall wellness of a patient in a variety of ways. It can tell us if a patient has an allergic reaction to substances, if they have conditions that are weakening their liver or other organs, or if they have certain deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, for example. When a patient is ill and can’t figure out why, the live blood cell analysis offers us a lot of information to help determine the best course of treatment.

Dr. Carol Ann Fischer provides this simple test for patients who are looking for more answers into their health and wellness status. It is performed simply by getting a drop of blood from the fingertip and putting that blood on a microscopic slide. This is then viewed with a dark-field microscope under high magnification, where the blood cells are analyzed. By magnifying the blood by about 30,000 times, we can look at how the patient’s body is getting along in their environment.

Some things we look for in the live blood cell analysis may include:

  • ·         damage to the blood cells

  • ·         if antioxidants may be needed

  • ·         the condition of red blood cells

  • ·         prevalence of bacteria or parasites

  • ·         proteins or fats that are undigested

  • ·         the balance of acid and alkaline in the body

  • ·         deficiencies of iron, folic acid, and B12

  • ·         oxygenation levels

  • ·         and many other factors

Call us here at TLC Holistic Wellness at 734-664-0339 to find out more about the benefits of live blood cell analysis.

Creating New Healthy Traditions - Happy Holiday Eating

During the holidays, it is not unusual for people to begin following unhealthy eating habits. Not only can these habits lead to weight gain, but also affect the person’s bodily system, including their digestive system. Here at TLC Holistic Wellness, Dr. Carol Ann Fischer encourages her patients to create new healthy traditions that involve beginning a habit of healthy eating during the holidays.

Some tips we offer for creating a new healthy tradition are:

1. Eat a small, healthy snack before holiday meals.

2. Be realistic in your goals for happy holiday eating.

3. Help cook some of the holiday dishes and control what ingredients you use.

4. Socialize during holiday events to avoid overindulgence in food.

A common problem we see in our patients is that they often skip meals before holiday meal time in order to eat what they want during their family dinner. But this doesn’t help them with weight loss or maintenance, because the body goes into starvation mode, holding on to the additional calories. It also provides for an imbalance in the digestive system.

We offer many holistic wellness services aside from chiropractic care, including whole food nutrition education, herbal supplements, and diet help for patients looking for assistance with their new healthy traditions. Contact us today at 734-664-0339 to learn more about creating new healthy traditions for the holidays and beyond.

This alone can do wonders for your holiday stress levels. An added benefit is that it helps reduce the risk of getting an illness, which is common during the holidays. Other tips Dr. Carol Ann Fischer offers for reducing holiday stress is being sure to get regular sleep, exercising, drinking plenty of water, reducing caffeine and sweets consumed, and taking vitamins, herbals and supplements -- which we also offer. Give the Gift of Health - Eco Gift Ideas

For this holiday season, Dr. Carol Ann Fischer urges her patients to give the gift of health. As the holidays approach, it becomes more likely that patients here at TLC Holistic Wellness and their friends and loved ones are going to enjoy sweets, treats, and plenty of unhealthy foods. Not only that, lack of exercise and remissed focus on wellness is also common during the holidays. By putting a little thought into the gift, patients can give the gift of health with the following eco gift ideas. These ideas range from food and kitchen appliances to eco-friendly outdoor items.

  • ·         Reusable water bottle

  • ·         Gift basket with healthy snacks and treats

  • ·         Camping gear with healthy snacks

  • ·         First-aid kit

  • ·         Reusable tote bag for the farmer’s market

When choosing eco gifts that are on the healthy side, consider the person you are giving to and what their needs are. Some people work full time jobs and are looking for reusable lunch boxes or coffee cups, while others are busy parents who would appreciate items for their family. You can also introduce them to our wellness center in Livonia, MI if they live or work in the area.

What other great ideas do you have for giving the gift of health in an eco-conscious way?

Carol Ann Fischer, D.C., N.D.

Migraines

Migraines cause severe pain for many patients, and can include throbbing and pulsating pain in the head. Migraines are common, affecting about 12 percent of Americans, according to the U.S. Department of Human Services and National Institutes of Health.

Some patients experience warnings in the form of a flashing light or aura, while others have no warning at all. Symptoms of migraines include nausea, vomiting, throbbing or pulsating feelings in the head, and sensitivity to bright lights or loud noises. These usually tell us it is a migraine and not just a bad headache.

Here at TLC Holistic Wellness in Livonia, MI, we provide treatment to help reduce the pain and frequency of the migraines. While the cause of your migraine may not be known, certain triggers tend to be common among our patients. Migraines are often triggered by certain lifestyle changes or events, such as hormonal changes for women, exposure to light, stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, or certain types of food and beverages.

Dr. Carol Ann Fischer offers different treatments for migraines, including the following:

1. Massage Therapy
2. Biofeedback
3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
4. Herbal Remedies
